Who can access the Model Hospital

Access to the Model Hospital is generally granted when the applicant is employed by, or has a bona fide connection to the work of known organisations whose functions are to provide and support improvements in the NHS. Registration for a Model Hospital account is initiated by a potential applicant making a request on our secure https website (https://model.nhs.uk/) which is secured using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). All requests are then processed via an online identity management solution called OKTA. OKTA provides our online identity management solution (provided to us by a third party company called OKTA) which manages the access to products, services, restricted website content, dashboards or other applications provided by NHS England and NHS Improvement.

All authenticated Model Hospital users are then required, on first registration, to accept our Terms of Use. We may at any time revise these Terms of Use without notice. Please check these regularly (available in the footer of the Model Hospital portal) as continued use of the Model Hospital after a change has been made is your acceptance of the change.

Model Hospital users have access to metrics that are generally presented at a level that identifies different organisations (e.g. providers/trusts, CCGs, ALBs). However where some metrics have been assessed as potentially sensitive, their associated national benchmarking and variation charts are anonymised and therefore other organisations are not identifiable in these charts.

The Model Hospital is a restricted platform and some data which are used to develop derivative metrics are provided to NHS England and NHS Improvement under a licence and where we are not the sole data owner any request for access to raw data will be passed to the relevant data owners. Any requests made for data on the Model Hospital under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) will be dealt with accordingly under our FOI policy and procedures.

If you have any specific queries related to information provided on this page please direct these to help@model.nhs.uk
